Who are we

Safety n Action was established in 2001 and has grown exponentially to become NZ’s most renowned Health & Safety Training provider. Safety n Action has over 35 full time employees including 18 plus full time trainers located around New Zealand. Our Head Office is situated in Albany Auckland and houses our customer service, accounts, resources and management team. Safety n Action is an NZQA Accredited Private Training Establishment registered in 2002. We have a range of over 30 Health & Safety courses including National Certificate H&S qualifications that we provide to our 4000 plus customers nationally.
Rowan Mckenzie is the company’s founder and sole director. His vision for the company is for Safety n Action to be the most professional, friendly and easy to deal with provider that our customers view as their partner in achieving their desired safety culture.

What we do

We are an industry leader in NZ Health and Safety training. We are involved at Government level in reviewing and adding to safety best practice guidelines. Our expertise is used by many of NZ’s major companies where we assist to develop permit processes and other safety systems. We are practical in our approach and strongly advocate the human factor influence in all aspects of safety.

We also work alongside our customers to offer a number of value added services such as procedure development and documentation design. When these are correctly integrated into training there is greater relevance and meaningful learning outcomes. We are often directly involved with the change management process which is always a key aspect in implementing major safety initiatives.

Because we provide real work place training we strongly advocate the use of your own equipment in the training and learning process. We don’t rely on this however and we have invested heavily in a very large range of safety equipment that we always provide to students at each course anywhere in the country. We don’t show you a picture and suggest you imagine. Rather you get to touch, wear, hold and learn on a real gas detector, harness, tripod, extinguisher, BA unit, or the like. Although Safety n Action does not sell equipment we are able to provide a wealth of first-hand knowledge on the correct use and suitability of various types and styles of product available in the marketplace.

Our Training Facilities

At Safety ‘n Action, you will experience training facilities like no other. We have 5 Training Centers located around NZ. These facilities have been purpose designed to provide real work at height situations, confined spaces, hazardous environments, isolation stations and many more attention grabbing, must experience, set-ups.

Our largest center in Highbrook, Auckland, has a roof space that covers more than 2500m2 and includes 4 well-appointed training rooms. Highbrook was officially opened by The Right Hon. Simon Bridges in 2013.

Our trainees get real hands on experiences training at real heights, confined space emergency entries, driving EWPs or forklifts, extinguishing fires, containing chemical leaks and much more adrenaline fuelled activities. We have all of the necessary equipment onsite for our trainees to handle and practise with, so they know exactly how to use real equipment in the workplace.

Onsite Training

Our trainers are based nationally so we undertake a significant proportion of training at our customers own sites. There are additional benefits where a company is able to run their own course. The course is customised so as all the material, examples, scenarios, equipment, people and procedures used in training are 100% relevant. We work alongside your company to improve and add value to your existing systems or procedures and this is often a direct benefit from our training style. For nationally based companies, training with Safety n Action ensures consistency in the delivery message and content.

Our People

Our trainers are highly experienced and practical people. They all have a shared passion in providing their students with the knowledge and the tools needed to incorporate sound safety practices into their everyday decisions and activities.

All Safety n Action trainers have actual workplace experience and hail from all walks of industries. Examples include from engineering, transport, dairy, fishing and chemical to manufacturing, emergency services, electrical and many more. Trainers have assessor and adult education qualifications along with Safety and relevant industry qualifications.

All our team are full time employees. We advocate this achieves a greater degree of ownership, responsibility for results and commitment to the values and purpose of the company. Our last NZQA EER was undertaken in November 2013. We achieved the highest possible ranking in both categories but most significantly there were no recommendations for improvement offered by the auditors.
