This is intended to prepare students for their application to become a Certified Handler. It is specially designed for people required to deal specifically with highly hazardous substances. Once you have completed this course you will gain unit standard 31291.

This online course provides information on the requirements and duties of Certified Handlers. Under new regulations, anyone who handles a hazardous substance must be trained. Before you complete this course you must complete the pre-requisite course, Management and Handling of Hazardous Substances to gain unit standards 31290 / 31293.
Additional information, training, and instruction is required for Certified Handlers who handle highly hazardous substances. These being:
This course will cover the duties of PCBU’s to ensure that substances with certified handler requirements are under the control of a certified handler and also covers the guide to workers who want to become Certified Handlers; getting a Certified Handler Compliance Certificate, the competency requirements around obtaining a Compliance Certificate, the documented knowledge required for a Compliance Certifier, the required information, training, instruction and practical experience required and the keeping of records.

All students are required to have a level of written and oral English equivalent to NCEA level 1 (year 11) or IELTS 5.5 or higher, to be eligible to attend our courses. The person responsible for making bookings or authorising attendance on the course must agree to these Terms and Conditions prior to acceptance of their student(s) onto the course. Where a student does not meet our English language requirement a reader/writer must be supplied by the student or the person responsible for authorising the student’s attendance. The reader/writer cannot be another student attending the same course
