The Class 4 Licence allows you to drive a vehicle 18,000kg and over.
Completing our NZTA-approved Class 4 truck licence training eliminates the six month learner licence period, allowing you to start driving Class 4 trucks sooner.
This Class 4 truck licence NZ course covers a wide range of vehicles, including trucks used for hauling aggregates, fertiliser, concrete mixers, waste, refuse, and recycling trucks—essential for many industries. Drivers with a Class 4 truck licence are highly sought after, opening up numerous career opportunities, including pathways to heavy vehicle haulage and even Class 5 driving.
A Class 4 learner licence (4L) must be obtained before the course. You are also required to have gained unit standard 24089 (logbook) within the last 12 months.
Please check the dates on your confirmation letter, as we occasionally need to adjust the timetable to accommodate public holidays and trainer/truck availability.
Please note: The transmission and type of the truck cannot be confirmed in advance due to the nature of our courses and truck availability. If you are unfamiliar with driving a Class 4 truck or manual transmission, we recommend booking additional training lessons to ensure you’re fully prepared.
Please contact us to discuss your options, you will need your learner licence prior to being able to undertake practical drive lessons.
Please bring along your ID - We need to verify the identity of students in attendance, please bring ID with you on the day of training.
If you currently hold a Class 2, 4, or 5 licence and need to drive without a supervisor during training, you are required to apply for an exemption. This process involves completing a DL4B form, which can be found here on the NZTA website. The exemption allows you to meet legal requirements for training without being accompanied by a supervisor.
All students are required to have a level of written and oral English equivalent to NCEA level 1 (year 11) or IELTS 5.5 or higher, to be eligible to attend our courses. The person responsible for making bookings or authorising attendance on the course must agree to these Terms and Conditions prior to acceptance of their student(s) onto the course. Where a student does not meet our English language requirement a reader/writer must be supplied by the student or the person responsible for authorising the student’s attendance. The reader/writer cannot be another student attending the same course.
