The Class 5 Licence allows you to drive a vehicle 25,000kg and over.

Overview

A Class 5 Licence allows you to drive a vehicle combination 25,000kg and over. Our course includes both a Class 5 Learners and a Class 5 Full licence - we manage the entire licencing process for you. The course fee includes theory training (unit standards 24809 and 17577), learner licence fees and a practical assessment.

If you do not have your Class 5 learners licence you must register for the three-day course.

Please note: The transmission of the truck cannot be confirmed due to the nature of our courses and truck availability. We recommend that if you are unfamiliar with a manual transmission you take advantage of an additional lesson prior to assessment.

Please bring along your ID - We need to verify the identity of students in attendance, please bring ID with you on the day of training.

Key Learning Outcomes:

  • Stage 1 - 1 Day 5L Learners Licence Theory.

    Sit your licence test when you are ready.

  • Stage 2 - 1 Day Logbook & Fatigue 24089, If you hold unit standard 24089, it is current and you can provide evidence (course certificate), you can qualify for the reduced course options
  • Stage 3 - 1 Day Class 5 Licence theory for unit standard 17577
  • Stage 4 - Allow 2 hours Be available for a practical training and assessment across the following 2 days.

Prerequisites:

  • 18 years of age or over
  • Held a full Class 4 licence for at least six months if under 25 or at least three months if 25 or over
  • Current Driver’s Medical certificate. (A driver’s medical is valid for 5 years once lodged with NZTA). This can be obtained from your Doctor.

Important Note for Holders of Current Class 2, 4, or 5 Licences:

If you currently hold a Class 2, 4, or 5 licence and need to drive without a supervisor during training, you are required to apply for an exemption. This process involves completing a DL4B form, which can be found here on the NZTA website. The exemption allows you to meet legal requirements for training without being accompanied by a supervisor.


Entry Criteria:

All students are required to have a level of written and oral English equivalent to NCEA level 1 (year 11) or IELTS 5.5 or higher, to be eligible to attend our courses. The person responsible for making bookings or authorising attendance on the course must agree to these Terms and Conditions prior to acceptance of their student(s) onto the course. Where a student does not meet our English language requirement a reader/writer must be supplied by the student or the person responsible for authorising the student’s attendance. The reader/writer cannot be another student attending the same course.

    • Do I need to know how to drive a manual transmission?
      The truck used for your practical assessment may have a manual transmission. If you’re unfamiliar with manual driving, we recommend booking an additional lesson before your assessment.
