Gain the skills needed to operate a radio remote or pendant controlled gantry crane and knowledge of the crane industry as a whole

This course will develop your overall knowledge and understanding of gantry crane operations and test your skills for carrying out daily checks, servicing and operating gantry cranes, whilst also learning about new developments relating to the crane industry and regulations.

The Crane Industry recognized there was a gap in knowledge around basic slinging so introduced Unit Standard 30072 as a prerequisite covered on our Sling Regular Loads Safely Course to support more specialized training in Overhead Gantry Crane, Truck Loader Crane and Rigging and Slinging.

In accordance with the requirements to maintain Consent to Assess for the unit standards taught on this course, Safety ‘n Action had this course pre moderated and approved by our standard setting body, The Skills Organisation.

Students need to have 3 months of work experience in the industry prior to doing the course.

Please bring along your ID - We need to verify the identity of students in attendance, please bring ID with you on the day of training.

Key Learning Outcomes:

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of using a radio remote or pendant controlled gantry crane and their components, equipment, and attachments

  2. Sling, lift, travel, and unload or place regular loads using a radio remote or pendant controlled gantry crane
  3. Park radio remote or pendant controlled gantry crane and store equipment
  4. Carry out daily and weekly operator maintenance of a radio remote or pendant controlled gantry crane
  5. Complete practical tasks to assess competency and confidence in simulated exercises

Prerequisites:

  1. Unit 30072 Demonstrate and apply knowledge of slinging regular loads safety

Experience Required:

  1. Must have satisfactorily gained at least 100 hours experience in the operation of a Overhead Gantry
    Crane. Documentation confirming this experience can be sent in at time of booking, ahead of training
    or post training.
    Please note: this unit standard can only be awarded once this documentation is received.

Entry Criteria:

  1. All students are required to have a level of written and oral English equivalent to NCEA level 1 (year 11) or IELTS 5.5 or higher, to be eligible to attend our courses. The person responsible for making bookings or authorising attendance on the course must agree to these Terms and Conditions prior to acceptance of their student(s) onto the course. Where a student does not meet our English language requirement a reader/writer must be supplied by the student or the person responsible for authorising the student’s attendance. The reader/writer cannot be another student attending the same course.

All cranes, vehicles and equipment being used must have current certification, be well maintained and be in good/safe working condition for use.
