Understand how to effectively use height safety and safety harness equipment
This course will provide you with the skills to identify the correct equipment, carry out pre-use checks and learn how to use a harness in conjunction with other height safety equipment. Also, understand the hazard and risk management process, specifically hazards associated with height systems and ascertain the importance of having a rescue plan. We cover hazards associated to working at height and with scaffolds, mobile elevated work platforms, ladders, ramps and stairways.
Key Learning Outcomes:
- Explain the legislative requirements and systems used for working at heights
- Demonstrate knowledge of hazards associated with wearing a safety harness and associated equipment
- Demonstrate knowledge of safety harnesses and associated systems and equipment
- Check and fit a safety harness system
- Use a safety harness system where a fall hazard exists at height
- Identify suitable height work equipment and suitable anchor points for fall and arrest systems
- Demonstrate knowledge of a rescue plan to be activated in the event of a fall
Entry Criteria:

All students are required to have a level of written and oral English equivalent to NCEA level 1 (year 11) or IELTS 5.5 or higher, to be eligible to attend our courses. The person responsible for making bookings or authorising attendance on the course must agree to these Terms and Conditions prior to acceptance of their student(s) onto the course. Where a student does not meet our English language requirement a reader/writer must be supplied by the student or the person responsible for authorising the student’s attendance. The reader/writer cannot be another student attending the same course.
