This nationally recognised NZQA qualification provides you with the fundamental skills and knowledge to actively contribute to health and safety practices in any New Zealand workplace. Through this course, you will gain a solid understanding of health and safety legislation, safe work practices, and how to manage hazards such as those found in confined spaces and when working at heights.

In a supportive learning environment, you will engage in practical, real-world scenarios, learning to identify and mitigate risks like back injuries, hearing loss, and unsafe working conditions. You'll also gain the skills to use height safety equipment and atmospheric testing devices to ensure safe working conditions in a variety of hazardous environments.

Please bring along your ID - We need to verify the identity of students in attendance, please bring ID with you on the day of training.

Fees:

This qualification is awarded following the completion of individual courses required to gain the units required.

We will discuss fees upon application once a study plan has been assessed and agreed upon.  Fees are based on the individual courses required to complete all units included in this qualification

Key Learning Outcomes:

  1. Apply health and safety legislation and safe work practices in a workplace setting.
  2. Identify and assess workplace hazards and implement appropriate control measures.
  3. Use height safety equipment to ensure safe work practices in high-risk environments.
  4. Demonstrate the safe operation of atmospheric testing devices for confined spaces and other hazardous environments.
  5. Understand the role and functions of Health and Safety Representatives within New Zealand workplaces.
  6. Apply health and safety risk assessments to various job roles and workplace scenarios.
  7. Demonstrate knowledge of workplace health and safety culture, practices, and the importance of a strong safety culture.
  8. Recognise the causes of common workplace injuries (e.g., back and hearing injuries) and methods to prevent them.
  9. Understand the rights, duties, and responsibilities under New Zealand health and safety legislation.
  10. Safely work in confined spaces by identifying potential hazards and following safe work practices.

Entry Criteria:

  1. Students must have NCEA Level 2 or equivalent
  2. Be over 18 years of age
  3. Students must have access to an appropriate workplace for relevant work experience opportunities as verified by an employer or supervisor. (If a student does not work or have a workplace to gain experience Safety N Action can provide actual and simulated workplace activities to meet the course units’ requirements and enhance the learning experience)

For the heights related courses candidates must:

  1. Weigh less than 135 kilograms (due to harness weight restrictions) for heights-based training
  2. Be physically fit and able to climb and carry heavy weights
  3. Have access to relevant tools and equipment (Safety N Action can provided the necessary tools and equipment for assessment purposes)
